IN MEMORY

Lady Gaga, a sweet senior Basset Hound, recently passed away at our kennel in Maryland.  We did the best we could to keep her comfortable and tried to help her find a new home.  Upon visiting her for video and pictures, we found her to be a sweet and friendly girl, and Dee and the rest of the crew at the kennel were doing a fine job of taking care of her.

We would like to thank two of the caring volunteers at the kennel who helped Lady Gaga rest in peace.  Thank you to Kat Homan-Soul for offering to bury Lady Gaga on her property, a lovely 6 acre farm in Baltimore County.  And thank you to Kathy Quinn for assisting Kat in giving Lady Gaga a respectful and loving burial.  She is now at peace in a beautiful, restful setting.

We would also like to take this opportunity to also thank all of the volunteers and animal advocates that take their time to visit with, walk, and promote adoptions for all the dogs in need at our kennel, and at other locations.

THANK YOU KAT AND KATHY FROM BHRL!

PLEASE HELP A RESCUE DOG TODAY!

The Basset Hound Rescue League has helped thousands of neglected, abused and abandoned dogs over the past 25 years. Due to the current economic situation, owners are surrendering their dogs in record numbers. We are overwhelmed and in urgent need of money to pay the veterinary and kennel bills for these dogs while they recuperate and find forever homes.

For each neglected dog, BHRL pays an average of $250 for a veterinary exam, diagnosis and treatment of some existing conditions, required shots and spay/neuter surgery. The cost of caring for a dog with a serious condition can easily be over $1,000.

Please consider supporting our rescued dogs with a donation. A contribution in any amount is welcome, but you may want to become a Sponsor with a donation of $250 or more. At this level, you select the animal you wish to sponsor and, if you would like to meet this lucky dog, a visit can be arranged! All contributions, no matter how large or small, are urgently needed to offset our increasing veterinary care and shelter costs and will be greatly appreciated.

Please see the inspiring story of Augie, one of our most recent rescues, and send your donation, payable to BHRL, to the address above.

Augie
AUGIE

Augie, a Basset Hound, was rescued by a wonderful group of college students in WV who had seen him living in the woods near their apartment for several months. When they discovered he was friendly, they brought him inside and instantly fell in love. Financially unable to keep him, they took up a collection for vaccines and flea treatment and contacted BHRL.

Augie is around 12 years old, has malformed front legs, knees askew and one foot almost facing backwards when he stands. He has a baseball-sized tumor on his right hind ankle, he is deaf, underweight by almost 30 pounds and has Lyme Disease. Augie was neutered, so we know he had a home before he was lost or abandoned to survive in the woods.

Even with his health issues, Augie has very quickly gone from a somber guy to a handsome, incredibly sweet, tail-wagging couch potato who enjoys his belly rubs and treats. Augie will remain in foster care and BHRL will provide all necessary treatment as long as he is with us.
